Hi. My name is Amanda Hofer and I am in a Global Issues class doing an awareness campaign for child poverty as part as my “take action project”.

What is child poverty? Child poverty refers to the state of children living in poverty. This applies to children that come from poor families or orphans being raised with limited, or in some cases, absent state resources.

In Manitoba 85,110 children live in poverty (2016 statistics). As of 2016, Manitoba also had the highest rate of child poverty in Canada.

How can you help? There are places that are looking for volunteers and/or donations to help the poor, including Winnipeg Harvest (1085 Winnipeg Ave), Siloam Mission (300 Princess Street, Winnipeg), Save the Children (savethechildren.ca), Steinbach Community Outreach (steinbachcommunityoutreach.com) and the United Way (unitedwaywinnipeg.ca) to name a few. Items that are needed include food, clothing and your time as a volunteer if you’re willing to help.

Please do your part to help spread the word and/or donate.
