Media reports of youth-related drug incidents in communities across Canada have many parents wondering how to best approach the topic of awareness/prevention with their kids. We all know the importance of talking to our kids before they are faced with the choice to use drugs, but how do we start the conversation? And what do we need to know about the drugs that they may encounter?
Niverville Collegiate Institute, in partnership with the Addictions Foundation of Manitoba and the local RCMP, will be holding a parent information night for all parents of children in NCI who are interested in learning more about how to talk to their kids about alcohol and other drug use before it ever becomes a problem. This one hour presentation will address youth-related local drug trends, the do’s and don’ts of talking to your kids about drugs, and how to encourage the development of assertiveness and refusal skills.
The presentation will occur in our gym from 6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. on Monday, October 24th .
6:30 p.m. – Introduction (NCI Administration)
6:35 p.m. – Local Drug Trends (RCMP-Shane Conway)
7:00 p.m. – Talking to your Kids (AFM- Daniel Dacombe)
