To better support students and host schools, please find registration information for the upcoming Driver Education term included below. We are hoping this will provide answers for some of the registration questions your school may encounter and help keep you informed. Please circulate this information to school staff as required.
Where can students go for registration information?
Once Driver Education courses are finalized, they are published on the Driver Education Course Finder on the Manitoba Public Insurance website (http://apps.mpi.mb.ca/DL/CourseFinder.aspx)
When does registration for the upcoming term begin?
Registration for the winter/spring 2018 term (includes courses with a start date between Jan 1 and June 30) will be available at the start of business on November 20, 2017. Courses will be available on Course Finder for students and parents to view only on November 16, 2017.
If a course at your school is at risk of the being cancelled due to low enrollment (or you typically have lower enrollment at your school), we would appreciate it if you could advertise the upcoming course with students and parents. Please contact the DE office, at any time, with questions about how we can work together to help keep the course running at your school/in your area.
How does reciprocity and the Student Admittance form work?
Students are grouped in one of two registration phases based on their reciprocity (determined by which students a host school allows into their courses):
Primary (usually reserved for students attending the host school) – Students in this group may register for courses as soon as registration is available. For the upcoming term, primary registration runs from November 20, 2017 to December 10, 2017.
Secondary (open to students from other schools or divisions as determined by the host school) – Students in this group may register three weeks after the course has been available to the primary group. For the upcoming term, secondary registration runs from December 11, 2017 to the course start date.
The Student Admittance Form is only given out by a host school to a student who is not included in the school’s reciprocity (meaning the student is not included in their primary or secondary registration phase). Student Admittance forms cannot be used to bypass the primary registration phase. Please do not issue a form before secondary registration opens as this may cause confusion. The student must wait until the secondary registration phase begins to register.
